Tent City Sidewalk “Skid Row after hours”

June 1st, 2010 | by admin |

Last night I went down to Skid Row. Last year I use to have to walk through this area and on a few nights fight in this area on my way to the SRO Hotel for people with HIV and AIDS. Downtown LA is home to the largest concentration of homeless people in the nation. Some say the world. This area sits right across the streets from the HIGH PRICED LOFTS that are taking over the area. Developers and landlords are striking deals all the time and the poor and homeless are being forced out.

On Skid Row the people can go over to Midnight Mission for a good hearty meal three times a day. They can even join the program there to get their lives back on track.

You said: “Believe it or not, this is America.” Yes, and in America the worst concentration of homeless people is still just a few streets with a scattering of tents. Have you traveled much? In many other countries, entire cities–the whole nation–are massive slums, people living like animals in much less than a tent. They have NOTHING–look at Haiti, Ethiopia, etc…

@DesertChick88 not all homeless people do drugs or have drinking problems or even mental illness, but you are too busy being so self righteous and judgmental to see this and understand this. The next time you find yourself in a situation, no matter what it may be and you require someone to show you some compassion think of how you show very little to people who are homeless.

Maybe those folks that are living in those high priced luxury lofts went to school and said no to drugs!!! Don’t blame them!

kengikat, I am not a organized religionist, I have read everything on god, my main book is the urantia book. I am a native californian, I too was very sick and poor for quite a while, I inherited some property
I have been thinking of doing something big. I didn’t mean people were uncool, but
well not as giving as southern midwest folks. I heard it said that if jesus christ himself walked into most of the churches, the congregation would still reject him, because of his simplicity.

Well I was born and raised here and I think Californians at least the ones born and raised here, are some of the coolest people on the planet. I just try to find the good in everyone. I know plenty of “church folk” who I would just rather not be around. People are hurting everywhere, all over the world and I have learned that from doing what I do, there are plenty of awesome people on this planet and California has plenty of great people as well

Not california people, I was in Oklahoma a few months ago and I watched a group on a sunday go over and repair a womans house she needed a new floor they discovered while there and get ripped the old wood floor out to put in a new one. I think because of seasons changing they are more in touch with surviving, this was a group like a church group, I was visiting next door and like 20 people showed up. In california, even though there are a lot of us, we are strangers. millions alone

You’re so right, but not all people are Godly. LOL not even the Godly ones right? Let’s pray that humanity will prevail and soon God will shine through

People need to adopt a homeless person or family. That is the godly thing to do. I am,
