what is the easiest way to find an hole in an air mattress???
March 11th, 2010 | by admin |We recently moved and are waiting for out things to arrive. We have been sleeping on an air mattress. Every morning when we wake up we are sqaushed together in the center and 1/2 way sunk to the ground. We refill it every nite just trying to get through but are annoyed!!!! Any suggestions on how to find the hole?? We have had no luck so far. Any info or suggestions would be great!! Thanks all 
Since you probably cannot hold it completely submerged in water, take a misting spray bottle and go over the air mattress with some soapy water. You’ll see the bubbles when you’ve hit the right spot. When you find it, dry the area and mark it with a felt pen so you won’t have to hunt for it again. Keep going over to see if there are any other air leaks. Good luck.

I would either pour water on it and press around on the mattress to help pressurize the air and force it out (as you apprently do when you lay on it) and check for bubble or bubbling noises made by the air as it pushes through the water.
Flip it over and test both sides and the outer edges.
If you can get the whole thing into a body of water, tub pond swimming pool, etc. that would be easier yet. Plus the whole darned thing will be cleaner!
I would guess you may have a leak in a seam somewhere (other wise is might be more obvious as you would hear the air escaping. Could be hard to fix if that’s the case.

yeah water/misting,,, is valid. I’ll add one, and it’s not as crude as it sounds. If you even have a general suspicion of where the leak is,,,spit there, or on your finger and apply it.
BTW,,adding some moderate pressure will increase the likelyhood of finding the leak.
Do you have pets? especially cat type pets?
An air bed, is as fragile as a water bed in that you can’t lay down on it with tools in yer pocket, or throw the cat onto it, when the cat is underfoot while you dress.
Once you find the leak,,,and repair it, (which is relatively easy) try to determine what caused it,,,especially if it isn’t a defect,,,such as a seam degrading, then make an effort to NOT allow that to happen again.
If it happens to be on the top,,,lay on surface,,, buy a pad, that might aid in avoiding the issue to POP UP again.

Chances are it`s prabably leaking at the air fill. Get some soapy water in a spray bottle and apply liberally in this area 1st, then do the same to the seam, then broaden your search to the remaining areas. I`m betting your leak will be at the fill tube. If by chance you find a pin hole somewhere else, clean the area. Fill partially with air (just enough to keep insides from touching together) then apply a small spot of super glue. Anything larger will probably require a patch, which does`nt sound like your problem. If it leaks at the fill, find an old inner tube and careful cut a circle from it to snuggly fit in the cap. fill it up make up a windex bottle full of soapy water get every one to sit on the matress and start spraying the soap. look for bubbles.
