    Just measure the size of the area you want to fill and buy the mattress that equals those dimensions.

    It leaves no room between the mattress and frame to make the bed, they are expensive, and if you eliminate the waterbed frame the fabric sides of the air mattress cannot support themselves and are basically useless.

    Look at waterbed inserts as and option. They can be made to fit the frame properly and come in memory foam, latex, and coil spring versions. Here is a blog on the topic of water bed inserts.
