    Just got a …
Just got a parachute hammock, cant wait for the warmer weather…

I plan to do a couple of thru hikes leaving my tent behind for the first time…setting my hammock up just like this I will suspend a poncho over top giving myself a pup tent/hammock set up. The whole thing should be very lightweight and take up less space than my tent in my sack.

I think they’re great but I’d like to be up higher. I know it’s a farther fall if it breaks but I don’t need bears with me in the middle of the night. Take care of it and tie it right, you’ll be fine.

    Hennessy Hammocks …
Hennessy Hammocks are extremely comfortable and give a nice support since they are crafted so you are laying on the bias. They have a bug net and a rain fly, and you enter them from the bottom which gives more stability. Hammock sleeping is so much nicer than ground sleeping.

I’ve never seen a backpacking hammock with a crossbar. You mean like the backyard woven hammocks? Those are the only one that I know of.

    No, sorry. I …
No, sorry. I should have been more clear. If you search Google for “hammock recall”, you can get a bunch of media coverage and the full story.

The problem is that hammocks without a crossbar can fold in on itself – making what is essentially a loose rope hanging between two trees. If you accidentally were to get tangled in that, it can on rare occasions end up wrapped around someones neck and causing strangulation. The main risk is small kids who aren’t big enough to save themselves.

    Yeah but there are …
Yeah but there are people who die from not guying out there tents properly and end up having themselves blown into a lake or, worse, off a cliff in the middle of the night. And really, 10 people a year…. They would have recalled hammocks in America if 10 kids were killed a year. Hammocks are just as safe as tents.
