How much propane(in weight) does a small camp stove use? is there a more efficient fuel?

I am considering back packing and dont know what fuel to use. Would I get more cooking time for weight from sterno, propane, or Smoething else? Also, how can i make a simple dehidrator, a water purifier, and what should i pack? What are some good websites about hiking and backpacking?

I was thinking about volunteering at a local national forest service. I like outdoor activities like, hiking, camping, backpacking, rock-climbing, etc… And I also want to help out the environment and meet different people who are there for same reason. I can’t spend anymore of my free time at the house. Will this boost up my resume for future jobs? For example, police work, DA office, and other government jobs.

I live in a small in town in Southwest Georgia and I am always trying to find people around here who enjoy hiking, camping, backpacking, rock climbing, kayaking,etc. I thought an outdoor club would be a good idea. How should I go about it?
