god i love reading all these ignorant, HATEFUL comments… why do you guys feel the need to do this? its all opinion. keep your to yourselves. we don’t care, ok?

    First of all, …
First of all, Poseidon holds a Trident. Secondly, if you don’t like poles, don’t use them. If you do like poles, use them. You guys are both idiots! Third, credentials mean nothing. Hiking is a unique and individual experience that will be tailored to each individual differently from others. Give the presenter a break He did a good job presenting his view on poles Personally I prefer to use one pole myself. If not a store bought trekking pole then a staff made of wood found on the trail.

I like one pole on …
I like one pole on the outside edge. It keeps my rhythm going up and has saved my rear more than once on a descent, invaluable on a narrow, steep, debris strewn trail.

It has to do with …
It has to do with the fact that you say you must be unfit to use trekking poles, idiot.

Dating? What a crazy you must be.

They are not unnecessary, it all depends on the terrain.

Good for you and your weights. Tissue and lotion while using them I assume?

    No I’m not wrong. …
No I’m not wrong. Read what I said again and I challenge you to find a single incorrect statement. I didn’t claim they had no benefit whatsoever, I just said they were unnecessary. I’ve done my share of hiking too but I don’t see what cycling and rock climbing has to do with anything? This is a youtube comments section not a date, I don’t want to know about your other credentials. Oh and I DO believe in weights.

    And you would be …
And you would be wrong. I use poles on difficult terrain. I mountain/road bike 50-70 miles a week, indoor rock climb, and do daily body weight exercises ( I don’t believe in weights), not to mention go on long hikes and overnight trips.
You’re wrong, poles have their place.

    You can go faster …
You can go faster by trying harder, which also expends more energy. That’s the same “pro vs. con” without even having a pole. They’re just large, unnecessary items for frail and unfit people.

    Poles certainly …
Poles certainly have their purpose, especially while descending, or if you suffer from knee/ankle problems.

Who are you trying to impress on the trail anyway?
Poles can make you faster, but you expend more energy. Just one pro vs. con, idiot.

If you need poles your bag is too heavy. It looks like his kitchen sink is in there too!

    i think all these …
i think all these comments are gay… learn to walk and steady yourself by not using the poles ( i mean face it you only bought them because you saw someone with a wooden stick and wanted to be better than they were. or maybe you saw someone with similar ones and wanted to be in good social standing) i mean learn some endurance and self reliance

    Well it’s more a …
Well it’s more a modern wooden stick for travelling. It’s main use is for balance, you have a third stability point. Also to keep snakes or whatever away from you. It’s not really intended for extra resting. If i would carry ONE wich i don’t, it would be longer then myself with a sharp point on top like a spear and a small stick across just below the point wich could stop a bear. A charging animal could be stopped that way by putting the back firmly into the ground if noise and stuff don’t work.

    We don’t use hiking …
We don’t use hiking poles in the military because we generally have our rifles in our hands. I can see the usefulness of hiking poles if you have a heavy pack though. I prefer a rifle though. As for the hat getting you up twice as fast, interesting theory… quickly Boy Wonder, to the bat cave!

    Two of my friends …
Two of my friends were drinking. The one wearing a hat got drunk and passed out but the one who was wearing no hat felt perfectly fine. So OBVIOUSLY based on this very scientific trial – wearing a hat gets you up twice as fast.

    YES the Military DO …
YES the Military DO use hiking poles especially the Royal Marines it’s a FACT and also a friend of mine went hiking with another friend, he took his hiking polls, his friend did not, his friend was exhausted far earlier than him, duh stupid hiking polls hey, you my friend live up to your name and are truely Jesting.

    You look an idiot …
You look an idiot when using poles at all, regardless of how. Poles are to hiking, what beige shorts and a hip-pack are to tourism. Do you see the military using poles? Hiking is supposed to be about getting back to basics. People seem to want a device for everything, what is wrong with your god given legs? They’ll adapt to the strain if you don’t rely on ridiculous poles.

    Interesting. I …
Interesting. I don’t hold the top of the holes when going downhill – just rest your hand on the straps when going downhill. By putting your hand through the straps from below and up, you can swing the poles outward. Note: I used gloves!
