Dude. Look at the Marmot Mica. Only 7 oz with all the features that you want. Unbelievable. The PreCip taht gat569 is talking about is good too but it wants to be a Mica.

I used a lightweight Marmot jacket – the Marmot PreCip. It’s basically a ripstop nylon shell, zip in/out hood, pit zips and bonded to the nylon is one layer of marmot goretex-like membrane (but not Goretex). It’s pretty good. I used it mostly as a windbreaker. But buy large enough that you can fit it over an insulating layer with some room to breath when it gets cold. They are about $90-100 I think. Marmot also makes a Precip-plus which I think is even more breathable.

I got that same military cold weather gortex jacket… Looks like I’d better take your advice… and get a lightweight one… Can you tell me a good one?

Yeah, Gore-Tex PacLite is where it’s at.
I go with the dirty girl gaiters. Only $15 a pair and super lightweight.

Go with a very light weight goretex top – not the heavy one’s he is using. Most of the time you are just going to use it as a windbreaker at night. You don’t want to carry all that weight.
Those gaitors are INSANE! Don’t do it! Use the small ankle ones- just to keep dirt out of your boots.
