@mormanman13 what exactly is a super special .38? did you mean to say a .38 super, and that is as far as I know, a special cartridge used for ispca and shooting competions. Your best bet would be to do some research before commenting. That way you dont look like an idiot that you came across as.
Btw , nice gear that you have, I really like it.

Taurus Judge. .410/3in revolver. it is the final word in terminal close encounters

@freewill51 The gun is not for the animals, its for the deliverance people.

u hurt the bear, its gonna hurt u back, u kill it if ur damn lucky. .the revolver is a joke…..did u forget the LMG m8..??????? or perhaps the GPMG should do the trick against the bears.
or maybe even a few hand granades ha ha ah aha ha ha.
Apart from that, seriously, the kit looks fine.

you should practice walking barefeet. in summer, it rocks! though if you have some really rough terrain, the flip-flops are nice.

If ya really wanna get rid of bears or anything else for that matter just carry some firecrackers. I’ve never had to use anything on the trail, but i had a black bear that kept getting into my trash one year so when i caught him i threw a 100 pack of firecrackers out of my window and it scared the shit outta him. He never came back! A gun is just too dammed heavy…

I would carry a gun but that little 38 its not going to do anything. Sorry to say but its not. If you want something that will get rid of a bear get a 44 mag or a 45. Maybe a super special 38 but thats maybe. I don’t think you need so many knives.

sorry to say, but the chance of having a bear attack you is only if you have a candy bar in your pocket. i was backpacking in Virgina and saw 3 bear cubs climb down trees ten yards away from me and a 1/2 mile away the momma bear. the all just ran away. with the weight of carrying a gun and other hikers freaking out when they see it, its not worth it.

I love when people talk about the guns you “should” carry, when 99.9% of them have never even seen a predator in the wild. I was jogging one day, saw a mountain lion, we stopped and stared at each other (me, in awe) and he trotted off into the woods. People watch too much tv!

that .38 is just gonna piss him off. .357 mag min. in black bear territory, .44 mag min. in griz territory. bear mace is your best first option but a gun is a better tool for survival in general. once i was trout fishing back pretty deep up a mountain stream and had a cougar stalking me. out of luck i accidentally bought along a little 22mag derringer, and had never carried a gun fishing before that. needless to say it beat the hell out of a rock and kept me off of the discovery channel.

Haha i believe that was a the deliverance reference there, and with that gun you wont be the one squeeling like a piggy

Quite a bit of weight? No thats not a heavy weight pack at all. For your realistic comfort necessities, thats a fairly light pack, unless your a advid minimalist back packer. As far as the gun really being the only choice for animal protection, not according to many experts and back packers it’s not. Bear spray is known to be more effect than a gun which with a gun you have to be dead accurate to fatally hit the bear. Hand guns are even less acurate than a rifle. Bear spray covers a broad range.

my god, carrying a .38 revolver to take on a hike,
( only in America i guess ) in England the only chance of being attacked by anything would be a grumpy bull or a herd of sheep.
