September 3rd, 2010Despite the fact that the number of people who smoke is stating to decline thanks to the greater knowledge about the health risks associated with the habit, smokers do still represent a significant proportion of the population, and it is important to provide them with appropriate facilities at the workplace. Smoking within the workplace is now outlawed in many places, so it has become more important than ever to provide an prefab outdoor smoking shelter where your staff can go so that they do not simply stand outside the door and create an obstruction.
When you choose a prebabricated outdoor smoking shelter that you need for your business, the location where you are going to put it must be an important part of the plan, and be taken into account during the design process. You should consider the direction of the prevailing wind so that maximum protection is offered in the shelter, and also make use of existing infrastructure wherever possible in order to reduce the actual cost of carrying out the work.
The outdoor smoking shelter should be large enough to comfortably accommodate the number of staff who are likely to use it, as well as being comfortable enough to encourage staff to go inside it to smoke, rather than simply standing around where other people might go. It is also important to choose a design for your shelter that provides some degree of aeration so that the air inside the shelter does not become choking with the fumes of cigarette smoke. A big problem that businesses face with smokers is the cost of cleaning up the cigarettes butts that are simply dumped on the floor when the smoker has finished. By encouraging people to use a single place to smoke, it also means that all of the mess will be concentrated in a single location, and this will improve the overall environment across your premises.
Non smoking employees will also appreciate the provision of an outdoor smoking shelter. One of the things that irritate people who do not smoke is that they often have to run the gauntlet of smoker’s standing outside the main door of a building during their breaks, as this is the most convenient place to smoke. When non smokers walk past the smokers, non smokers feel that breathing second hand smoke and smoke smell clinging to a non smoker’s hair and clothes is an infringement on their rights, which can cause animosity among employees. By ensuring that the smoking area is clearly defined through the use of an outdoor smoking shelter and properly monitored through information to staff, it is possible to ensure that the problem of smokers is moved to a location where they will not bother other staff or visitors to the company.
