Winter Outdoor activities in Japan?

I’m on a short visit to Japan. I have a JR pass and want to do the best hiking I can. I don’t mind cold weather or snow but I didn’t bring any climbing or mountaineering gear so I need pretty mild outdoor activities. Suggestions on places that are easy to get go by Japan Rail and can be seen in a day or two? Thanks.

Winter Camping – Hammock Gear Testing

From the last hammock video, got some new gear, mainly a mummy sleeping bag and a space blanket to try out. This video is mainly for newbies who are starting to get into winter camping or into hammock camping and are looking at ideas or learning from my mistakes Bad editing in this video, however some things to learn… 1. Getting into a hammock via a mummy sleeping bag is hard. But gets easier. 2. Space blanket didn’t work out as expected. 3. I skipped the liner, since I had enough issues trying to get in the hammock. I didn’t use the tarp, and the conditions were -3C with light winds. I felt the cold around my shoulders and waist area. The space blanket didn’t work as I thought it would. I might resort back to using the therma rest to insulate myself from the bottom.

Good active winter gear set up for hiking/camping?

I live out in Utah and need some suggestions on good winter gear that will keep me warm and dry on both sides…meaning that when i sweat (which is inevitable) I won’t get too cold, and snow won’t melt on my outer layer and refreeze as ice. What do you skilled winter adventurers wear? Tell me all your layers and any gear suggestions you have please. I will be traveling through deep snow requiring snow shoes. Any good and supportive hiking winter boots? Thanks for all the help. I’m trying to get a head start on winter gear.

i am preparing to hike the appalachian trail this winter and would like suggestions regarding thermal underwear, rain gear, boots, socks, shirt, pants, etc… for staying dry and warm. also i must consider light-weight.
